So you want to be in the Special Forces. Which one is best suited for you?

SEALs are part of the Navy and are primarily tasked with maritime SF operations, reconnaissance, sabotage, boarding, riverine warfare, etc. However they are extremely versatile, as we see them being used in Afghanistan and Iraq for example in long range recon, raids, etc.

There are currently 10 SEAL teams. Each team has 5 platoons. They used to be organized with each team focusing on a specific region, but that’s been thrown out the window and each one deploys to anywhere.

A special unit of the SEALs, the Naval Special Warfare Development Group (formerly SEAL Team 6) is tasked with maritime counter-terrorism. They tend to work closely with Delta Force, and have similar training and equipment. DEVGRU is organized separately from the other SEAL teams, under Joint Special Operations Command (more on this later).

Special Warfare Combat Craft Crewmen are also part of NSWC. These are the guys that drive the boats the SEALs ride in.

US Army Special Operations Command is the Army’s component of SOCOM.

Green Berets are properly referred to as US Army Special Forces. They deploy in A-teams of 12 men, and are trained in all sorts of reconaissance, direct action, liason with friendly forces, training foreign troops, guerilla warfare etc.

Special Forces are organized into Special Forces Groups. Each SFG has a regional focus and its members receive intensive training in foreign languages and culture for that region.

1st SFG – Pacific Region.
3rd SFG – Africa
5th SFG – Middle East, Persian Gulf, Horn of Africa, Central Asia
7th SFG – Latin America, Carribbean
10th SFG – Europe, Turkey, Israel, Lebanon
19th SFG – National Guard unit, SE Asia/Pacific
20th SFG – National Guard unit, Latin America/Carribbean

The 75th Ranger Regiment is a rapidly deployable, flexible airborne light infantry force. Their missions include air assault, raids, airfield seizure and anything else where special operations units need extra firepower to back them up. The 75th Ranger Regiment consists of 3 battalions.

The 160th Special Operations Air Regiment, also called the “Night Stalkers” is a special helicopter unit whose mission is to provide aviation support for other SF units.

The 4th Psychological Operations Group deals with propaganda and other such operations.

The 95th Civil Affairs Brigade is an airborne qualified civil affairs unit, focusing on hearts and minds stuff.

US Air Force Special Operations Command

Pararescuemen also called PJs (a nickname pronounced ‘pee jays’), are United States Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) and Air Combat Command (ACC) operatives tasked with recovery and medical treatment of personnel in humanitarian and combat environments. They are the only members of the DoD specifically organized, trained and equipped to conduct personnel recovery operations in hostile or denied areas as a primary mission. PJs are also used to support NASA missions and have been used to recover astronauts after water landings

Special Operations Weather Teams are units of combat weathermen who conduct covert reconnaissance in order to provide weather information for airstrikes and other such operations.

Combat Controller Teams are Air Forces personnel who conduct reconnaissance and direct air strikes and airborne landings. They are often attached to other units such as Special Forces.

The Air Force also maintains the 1st and 27th Special Operations Wings with the mission of air support (such as the AC-130 gunship) and Combat Search and Rescue.

US Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command is a relatively new division, created in 2005. Before this, the USMC was not represented in Special Operations Command.

Force Reconnaissance companies (commonly called Force Recon) are tasked with long range covert reconnaissance in all environments (including maritime). They are also tasked with direct action, CQB, and seizing ships and oil rigs.

Marine Special Operations Adviser Group is tasked with training foreign troops.

The 1st and 2nd Marine Special Operaitons Battalions are new units created in the last few years, tasked with reconnaissance and direct action missions.

Joint Special Operations Command is a command within USSOCOM, which contains the “elite of the elite” units.

1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (commonly called Delta Force) is primarily a counter-terrorist unit, however Delta operators have the capability to conduct a diverse scope of missions, including reconnaissance and direct action missions.

Hard information on Delta is hard to come by as the US government only recently aknowledged the unit’s existence, much less comment on its organization. It is believed to be divided into 3 squadrons, with a total of 250 combat operators and 750 support staff (intelligence, communications, mechanics, etc).

The US Navy Special Warfare Development Group, formerly known as SEAL Team 6, is another counter terrorist, reconnaissance and direct action unit, with a maritime focus. In practice, their role and operations are almost identical to Delta, and some have called for the two units to be merged into one.

24th Special Tactics Squadron is a unit of the Air Force. It is an elite unit of combat controllers, often attached to Delta or DEVGRU.

The Intelligence Support Activity is a highly classified intelligence-gathering unit designed to gather human and signals intelligence for Special Forces units. The unit has been known under a series of code names such as Field Operations Group, Grantor Shadow, Yellow Fruit, Centra Spike, Torn Victor, Gray Fox and Cemetery Wind.

Non-SOCOM Special Operations Capable Units – these units are not officially part of USSOCOM, but they have a special operations capability.

Maritime Security Response Team – The MSRT is a special operations capable unit of the US Coast Guard. Created in 2002, It specializes in maritime boarding of ships and oil rigs for counter-terrorist operations.

The Special Activities Division (SAD) is a division of the United States Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) National Clandestine Service (NCS) responsible for covert operations, black operations and other “special activities.” These include covert political action and paramilitary special operations. Within SAD there are two separate groups, one for paramilitary operations and another for political action. The Political Action Group within SAD is responsible for covert activities related to political influence, psychological and economic warfare. The rapid development of technology has added cyberwarfare to their mission. A large covert operation usually has components that involve many, or all, of these categories, as well as paramilitary operations.

Special Operations Group (SOG) is the element within SAD responsible for paramilitary operations. These operations include collection of intelligence in hostile countries and regions, and all high threat military or intelligence operations with which the U.S. government does not wish to be overtly associated.[3] As such, members of the unit (called Paramilitary Operations Officers) normally do not carry any objects or clothing (e.g., military uniforms) that would associate them with the United States government.[4] If they are compromised during a mission, the government of the United States may deny all knowledge.

SAD/SOG has several hundred officers, almost all of them former members of Special operations forces (SOF) and most from the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).These JSOC units include the U.S. Army’s Delta Force and Navy DEVGRU, from which most recruits are selected. Recruits also may come from USSOCOM units such as Army Special Forces, Navy SEALs, MARSOC, and Force Reconnaissance. Army Rangers, Air Force Combat Controllers, and Air Force Pararescuemen with stand-out capabilities are also occasionally recruited. The CIA’s formal position for these individuals is “Paramilitary Operations Officers.” These officers are then fully trained as clandestine intelligence operatives, otherwise known in the vernacular as CASE OFFICERS. The primary strengths of SAD/SOG Paramilitary Officers are agility, adaptability, and deniability. They often operate in small teams, typically with six operators, all with extensive military special operations expertise and specialized skills that do not exist in any other unit. As fully trained intelligence case officers they possess all the clandestine skills to collect HUMINT—and most importantly—to recruit assets from among the indigenous troops receiving their training. These officers often operate in remote locations behind enemy lines to carry out direct action (including raids and sabotage), conduct espionage by HUMINT assets, counter-intelligence, guerrilla or unconventional warfare (UW), and hostage rescue missions.

Paramilitary Operations Officers are trained to a high level of proficiency in the use and tactical employment of an unusually wide degree of modern weaponry, explosive devices and firearms (foreign and domestic), hand to hand combat, high performance driving (on and off road), apprehension avoidance (including picking handcuffs and escaping from confinement), improvised explosive devices, Military Free Fall parachuting, combat and commercial SCUBA and closed circuit diving, proficiency in foreign languages, entry operations and vehicle hot-wiring, Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE), extreme survival and wilderness training, combat EMS medical training, tactical communications and tracking.

The Hostage Rescue Team is the primary counter-terrorist unit of the FBI, and the primary counter-terrorist unit for any incident inside the United States. the HRT have also been deployed to Pakistan in order to circumvent Pakistani prohibitions of US military forces operating inside the country.

The Special Operations Group is the primary SWAT team of the US Marshall’s Service. Their primary mission is security and SWAT/Hostage rescue operations inside the federal prison system, but they have also been deployed to Iraq to secure the Iraqi judicial system as it tries former regime leaders.

Why am I always harping to my clients about the need for lean mass?

Because it’s the most important fitness attribute you can build. Your life literally depends on it.

That’s right, it’s MORE IMPORTANT than “cardio”. And here are the top 10 reasons why:

1. Lean Mass = Metabolism

There is nothing else you can do – and certainly nothing you can eat- that will actually boost your metabolism, except for adding lean mass and moving your lean mass.

Forget about the supplement ads that claim Green Tea, protein, or some berry from the Amazonian jungle can boost your metabolism.

They are LYING.

The truth is only lean mass boosts metabolism. Period. And everyone knows how important your metabolism is for staying lean and healthy.

2. Lean Mass = Curves in all the right spots

Here’s the equation to putting curves in all the right spots, no matter if you are a man or a woman:

Build lean mass + boost metabolism + burn fat from bad curves + add lean mass to right curves = Totally sexy body

Let’s see cardio do that. Won’t happen.

3. Lean Mass = Strength in old age

Having strength in your 60′s, 70′s, 80′s, and beyond is far more important than cardio fitness in old age. People don’t fall because they lack cardio fitness. They don’t get put in wheelchairs because they can’t jog a 10k. They get disabled because they have no muscle or strength.

I know. Have you been to geriatric hospital wards? These people can still move – IF they can get up. But they aren’t strong, so they remain confined to beds. It’s really, really sad.

The majority of obstacles to living a full life as you grow older comes from not having strength or muscle. That’s a fact.

4. Lean Mass = Keeping up with your kids.

And it means keeping teenage boys intimidated and out of the house if you have a teenage girl.

Lean mass also equals less embarrassment if you have teenage boys. No one wants a fat, weak, wimpy old man.

5. Lean Mass = A good reason to eat more food…and the ability to burn more calories.

Listen, most of the guys I know who have lots of lean mass need 3000 calories per day just to MAINTAIN their size.

It’s a win-win. You get to eat more to build lean mass, and you get to eat more to keep lean mass. Not so with lame ol’ cardio.

6. Lean Mass = Functional Strength

Whether it is carrying groceries, controlling your crazy dog on a leash, or cleaning out the garage, the more lean mass you have, the easier everything will be. Lean mass = POWER.

7. Lean Mass = Confidence

Every where I go the folks with lean mass are the ones with a crowd around them, attracting high-energy, positive people. And it seems like the skinny ones…they all seem to walk around with their head down…a little shy and ashamed…hey, that’s just the way it is.
Don’t get mad…get lean mass instead.

8. Lean Mass = Looking awesome in a t-shirt, no matter what gender or age, no matter where you go.

Again, just another example of how lean mass gives you power, confidence, and a reason to buy really nice fitting shirts.

It doesn’t matter if you’re hitting NYC, Vegas, Miami, or the lake that you go to every summer with the family, looking good in a t-shirt (or bathing suit) is a great feeling.

9. Lean Mass = The Beach.

When you have lean mass, the beach becomes the place to be. When you don’t have lean mass, the beach becomes a dirty word…a place to avoid…and who wants to avoid the beach, baby? That’s the power of lean mass.

10. Lean Mass = No regrets.

Listen, here’s an embarrassing story… after completing high school and preparing to play tennis at the University I made a mistake with my training and focused too much on cardio.

I got way too skinny. I lost lean mass. And I regret it.

But more importantly, like 75% of people in life, I regret something that I didn’t do…I regretted that I didn’t try to build lean mass.

I regretted it because I was missing out on many of the 10 reasons I just listed above. What a mistake.

I felt like such a fool for sacrificing lean mass… and it’s been my mission since then to show people that when you have the choice between lean mass and cardio that they should ALWAYS choose lean mass – no matter what the politically correct magazines say.

Fortunately, before the end of that summer back in 1975, I changed gears and got back on track with my training, eating, and lean mass building program. And I’ve looked better, had more confidence, and simply kicked-butt since the day I decided to get serious about building lean mass.

Those that know me, know I keep everything simple and to the point. Weight loss isn’t complicated but most would have you think it is.

Stop spending your money on the Lastest and Greatest methods

1. Set a goal date for a specific weight loss amount and don’t be afraid to adjust it from time to time.

2. Find a few supporters or a support Group. Staying motivated is a key element to losing weight.

3. Create an action plan. If you do not know how to do this. Give me a call, I’ll help you.

4. Prepare to be uncomfortable – At least for a short while.

I’m constantly asked to explain what I mean when I say “EAT LESS”. A simple explanation is: “Eat Less than you are comfortable eating”. If you are carrying extra weight, then chances are you are currently eating more than you need to.

When you begin your body transformation, it is a learning process, and you and your body will need to learn to be comfortable eating less.

This happens quicker for some people than others, but it will quickly happen. The key is to use a transformation plan that allows you to eat less, while limiting the “uncomfortableness” of the actual dieting process. Eating less will quickly become the new “Eating Normal” for you.

5. Compare yourself to yourself.

Look, everyones’s bodies are shaped differently. It continues to be my opinion that drug use by both men and women for dieting is far more widespread than most of us think and the use of expert lighting, touchup makeup and PHOTOSHOP makes almost EVERY picture you see a completely unrealistic illustration of the human body.

THE ONLY PERSON YOU SHOULD BE COMPARING YOURSELF TO IS YOURSELF.

Strive to be a better you, but don’t try to be someone else, because it’s not going to happen.

6. Be Patient

I constantly see this with my clients and it goes like this:

FIRST three weeks — most of the dramatic weight loss happens.

LAST three weeks — this where most of the visible changes happen.

The period in between?

This is where most people get frustrated and anxious. So plan ahead.

I constantly remind my clients that YES, there will be large weight loss at the beginning, but after that it’s ‘slow and steady’ that wins the race, and it will all be worthwhile during the final weeks when every day brings noticeable changes to the way you look.

7. Don’t justify over-eating with exercise.

You have to make sure you don’t eat more food just because you’re doing more exercise. Also be aware of how active you are thoughout the rest of your day when you add the extra exercise.

8. Remember your weight will fluctuate.

I am 250-ish pounds fasted, and 255-ish pounds fed. My weight goes up and down 3-5 pounds every day.

Try your best to always weigh in after an overnight fast and remember to look for the trend not the exact number each day. Don’t worry if you are up a couple of pounds one day…

Stay the course. My plans are simple and they work.

Spread the Word!

Have you ever seen two people who were both 60 years old but one of them looks 70 and the other looks 45? Age can’t be measured by the calendar alone. There are several well established “bio markers of aging” that are used to give more accuracy to the assessment of physical age. Guess what? The amount of muscle your body contains is one of the principle bio markers of aging. The more muscle you have, the younger you are. Another bio marker is bone density. Guess what the number one method is to increase bone density? Weight bearing exercises!

Those of us over the age of 50 can greatly slow down (in many cases reverse) the aging process by performing rational, efficient strength training combined with “correct” cardio. This is proven to increase muscle mass and bone density. The great news is, it doesn’t have to takes hours and hours in a gym every day. You don’t need the wear and tear on your body to regain your youth. Work with me and I show you how to put old on hold.

We have a great time . Join us.

It use to be in America, fat people were a minority. The truth now, they are the majority….66%
Most who know me, know that I call it the way I see it. I am so tired of seeing people taken in with the so called latest and greatest fat loss gimmicks that end up on the shelf or hidden away under the bed.

I’m going to give you the seven most common reasons why you’re fat and why you’ll probably stay fat.

YOU’RE LAZY… Plain and simple. The thought of exercising just makes you want another 200 calorie soda.

YOUR JOB RULES YOUR LIFE… whether you’re a full-time mom or a business executive, you probably don’t have time to eat healthy.

YOU HAVE TOO MUCH FREE TIME TO SPEND EATING… If you did more things rather than watch TV or sit at the computer chatting on Facebook, maybe you could lose weight

YOU WORK FROM HOME… and you have a house full of goodies. The temptation is all around you. Doritos in the cabinet, cookies in the jar, ice cream in the freezer. Forget salad!

YOU EAT ANGER/DEPRESSION AWAY… You can’t help but hate the world, your job, your car, your kids, your friends, your boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse. Why not have another Oreo?

YOUR FRIENDS ARE FAT AND THEY DRAG YOU DOWN… They eat out a lot, they snack, they order pizza/chinese and invite you over. It’s inevitable to happen.

YOU JUST DON’T CARE… about calories, fat content, carbs, you eat what you want because you only get one life to live.

I see overweight marathon runners and long distant cyclist who are very active. The problem is, they do a 10-K straight to McDonald’s.

WHAT’S THE SOLUTION?
As fast as you can, contact me. You need me to help you. I will be your teacher, coach, workout buddy, your support, your friend, and I will truly believe in you.
I will be there for you, not just that one hour in the gym but also the other 23 hours you aren’t.

You would be surprised how many people are physically unprepared for Boot Camp or the Law Enforcement Service Academy when they arrive.

Arriving fit for any military or law-enforcement training program is a must.

Full Force Training is your answer.

1st. Full Force Training is designed for those who seek to serve in Special Operations forces in the various military branches. You will arrive at Basic Training in the best shape possible. This means, not just reaching the minimum standards for that SF branch but blowing the standards away. Then over the course of the training - which will be physically easy for you – you can consider it a form of a taper and rest prior to your more challenging training programs for the Rangers, Special Forces, Navy SEALs, RECON, and PJs (Airforce pararescue jumper).

2nd. For those planning to enter the law enforcement field and want to be the best in the class, you should know Full Force Graduates are trained to place in the top 5% of the academy.

As a Graduate of Full Force Training you will show up fit and able to pass your respective Personal Fitness Test (PFT) easily. You will be prepared to go to the military boot camp or law enforcement service academy able to compete instead of having the mentality of just surviving. This makes all the difference in the world between those who graduate and those who quit.

You’ll train with the best. Train with former or retired Navy SEAL, Marine RECON, Army Special Forces, Delta Force and Specialized Instructors that have and continue to train Federal/Special Agents and Military personnel.

Warning!

Full Force Training is the Real Deal. Commit to Get Fit or Stay Home!

Train Hard, Train Smart, Go Full Force

Camps Begin Every Monday. We’ll Be there, Will You?
